I have serious problems with my '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and need any advice anyone can give me. To begin with the blower on my heating-a/c stopped working on 3 of the 5 settings. It works on low and high, nothing inbetween. The a/c blew cold air, the heater blew hot air so I think "no big deal". Well, it has tried to run hot on me a few times. I could smell anti-freeze, car smoked a little but the thermostat NEVER went over 220. I had noticed before that my passenger floorboard would be wet. It's not losing any coolant at all. This is the heater core gone bad, correct?
Even BIGGER problem is today we were going to do an oil change/tune up on it. It'll crank and continue running ONLY if you're continuously giving it gas...as soon as you let off of the accelerator, it goes dead. Any suggestions on this?

The blower speed is lessened by giving the motor less power, old school was to route the feed through different resistors on the way the blower to give it different speeds, sure they use something electronic to do the same thing. Your problem is probably in that component.

The wet floor and smell of anit-freeze and overheating definitely points to a leaking heater core. Relatively cheap part, but expensive to get too -usually requires taking out the dashboard. Not a small or easy job. You can bypass it for the time being by connecting together the hoses that run to it.

It the truck won't stay running but the problem only surfaced after you changed the oil? Any trouble light with it?
