2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade shakes uncontrollably 40-45 mph?

My 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade will violently shake uncontrollably cruising at a rate of 40-45 mph as if it were driving over rumble strips in a road. Just before the shaking occurs the Jeep feels sluggish like it's misfiring and the tachometer will jump between 1000-1200 rpm (trying to make up it's mind it seems). My first thought was that the Jeep just needed a tune-up because I've only had the Jeep for four months and was not sure if it had ever had one. Since the Jeep has been in my possession, it's had the transmission fluid changed twice, the transfer case oil changed, and has had a tune-up. The Jeep has 98k miles on it.
The problem has progressively gotten worse since the first time the transmission fluid was flushed. Two mechanics suggested that the incorrect transmission fluid was put in. At that point I changed the fluid for the second time, still the problem occurs. I've taken the Jeep to several mechanics, transmission shop, and a Chrysler dealership for diagnostics testing. The diagnostics testing revealed no errors. Some mechanics could not get the Jeep to shutter or shake on command and therefore said that there was nothing wrong with it. Every mechanic has given different opinions on what the problem could be and I would appreciate your opinion too. Thanks.
