alright, dont flame this post . some might call me stupid. BUT..... i have about 16k to spend into a car... i want a fairly fast car.... and reliable .... so if you could please post all suggestions and reasoning behind it please happy.

16k of what? New Zealand dollars, Swiss Francs or Danish Crowns; that's quite a difference.

About "fast": what's the maximum allowed speed where you live? 120 km/hour?

I would look at a Scion tC. Easily modified, cheap, relatively fast for 16k. Plus it is not made by a US company, so reliable. Yes, it's Toyota and if you are afraid of the whole braking ordeal that is your problem, but I don't see it as a problem. I have a xB and it is awesome. A tC is faster.

A good used 350Z early model with low mileage will cost you about what you have. That's one heck of a fun car stock, without the need to tweak much of anything.
