96 Jeep grand cherokee laredo thats stalling/backfiring

I have a 96 jeep grand cherokee laredo. It stalls at any time i can be at a stand still, a stop sign, or even have my foot on the gas and it will lose power. It also backfire's. I have changed the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, throdel position sensor, throdel body cleaner, distruditor cap and rotor and also purchased a fuel filter. I took it to the jeep dealership and they cannot find the problem they said the computer is not picking up any thing. I also took the car to another mechanic and he cannot figure out the problem ither. Can someone please help!!!

stalling/backfiring - possible fix

I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee - I have the same stupid problem. I found a story where the guy replaced the crankshaft position sensor and it was a fix. I am going to try this next. I have spent more money trying to figure it out and I hope this works. In fact, my car died this morning three times, in traffic, and I hoping I get home tonight. If you get to this first, can you let me know if this fixes the problem please? My mechanic is a knucklehead and can't figure it it. When I checked on line, the part is cheap, it's gettting to it that may cost some money - this guy did a demo on youtube. Thanks,

I too am having the same issue on my 97 jeep. I have made the same kindda repairs. I have also done a tune up and even replaced the computer. It ran great for about a week and then started stalling again. My car guy then said he thinks my transmission might be the problem and referred me to a transmission specialist. Transmission and engine both came back fine and in good shape. I am running out of option. I've pretty much replaced all that is under my hood. I pretty much have a new car with the same problem that wont go away.

Its funny there is no recalls on them. But no answers either.
