Problem starting 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hello. I own a 93 JGC, 4WD, 5.2, 8 cylinder. For the past few weeks, it does not want to start right away. It will crank...nothing, turn key off. Crank...nothing, turn key off. This goes on and on; 3 times, 7 times, 12 times, etc. During one of these tries, the 'service engine' light flickers, I pump the gas, and it finally turns over. Once running, absolutely no problems...runs like brand new. If I shut it off and start it right away, fires right up, and no problems once running. If I wait about 15-20 minutes after shutting it off...it takes multiple cranks to start.
I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotar, and ignition module. No progress. I brought it to a mechanic. They replaced the fuel filter. Still having same exact problem. After some troubleshooting, the mechanic says he is finding the fuel pump relay is chattering and not allowing the pump to prime...but only after the vehicle sits for the 15-20 min after shut down. He swapped out the relay, does not fix the problem. The verdict, per the mechanic, is the crank sensor or the computer. Neither are extremely expensive, but I am not looking at spending money just to rule out another problem, still have to cover the labor charges, and still have an uncooperative Jeep.
Has anyone ever run into this problem? What cured the problem?
Is changing the crank sensor a difficult task? Is it DIY friendly?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
