99 (wj) Grand cherokee 4.0 major electrical issues
Looks like mine also has the BUG, only just bought it and i'm beginning to realise why he sold it to me, my issues are as follows.
When i bought it the first night after i locked it up, i noticed that the interior lights would come on for about 15 seconds then dim out, then come back on again after about 30 seconds! It has a bit of a rough idle and the other day i went out to it and the battery was flat, so something was draining the battery, so i performed a parasitic draw test to see what was causing it. the results are as follows.
Tested the relays/fuses and i'm getting some weird readings, all doors closed and light taken from under bonnet, i am getting a parastic draw of 1.40A constantly.
firstly the PDC was tested and the results are;
Number 12 (power windows) 0.46A
Number 8 (Ignition starter) 0.65A
then fuse box under sterring wheel;
Number 30 (radio) 0.52A
number 5 (radio amp) 0.33A
number 17 (instrument cluster) 0.15A
number 29 (rear wiper switch) 0.14A
number 28 (Body control module) 0.06A
number 7 (interior lights) 0.03A
number 8 (overhead console etc..)0.02A
what was confusing me was if i took the No 12 + No 8 out of the PDC it left me with around 0.30A which i would be happy with, thats about standard i think. but i was able to get a draw of 0.85 when i took the fuses out of the stereo!!! weird! so i then pulled the radio fuse and went back to the PDC, then pulled No 12 (power windows) and it still dropped 0.46A, so i then pulled No 8 (ignition/starter) and it only dropped 0.14 this time, so i am guessing that the radio feed comes off the ignition or has a wire from the ignition, things started to make sense. the radio amp draw of 0.33 can be disregarded as with the radio fuse pulled it makes no difference when you pull the radio amp fuse.
So that leaves me with a radio that pulls 0.52A (i will just pull the fuse and sort this at a later date with an aftermarket CD player)
And the power windows (No 12 on PDC) pulling 0.46A which i need to sort out
The ignition pulling around 0.15A - is this normal?
rear wiper switch pulling 0.14A (that doesn't sound right)
instrument cluster/diagnostic check 0.15A (is this normal?)
so guys, any ideas on what i should be looking at to sort the windows? is there a relay or anything that can go wrong?
Any ideas on the other issues?
What i've also just considered is that in the PDC No 8 and No 12 are right next to each other, could there be a problem with the PDC? is this common?
I have read this thread from to bottom, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction, since i reconnected the battery after a day of pulling fuses and relays the airbag has come on aswell now!!!!!!!!!! the crank sensor was replaced a year ago
