ATT U-verse little advertised facts

After days of happy anticipation today was the day of our ATT U-verse install. Caveat emptor.
After having all sorts of issues tonight and having to call ATT for help, this is what I found out, and which no one ever explained to us, and I really feel I needed to share.
This system only allows 4 streams to enter the house. Think of it as four roads into your home. (Simple explanation for people like my sister who has trouble with "techy" things.) Three of those are HD roads, and the fourth one is regular TV. The problem is that those 4 roads are what carry the traffic of TV viewing AND recording. So in other words you can only have 4 functions going on at the same time - period. Again - so either you have 2 people looking at HD channels and one recording an HD programme, and the fourth looking at regular TV, or 2 people looking at HDTV and one HD programme recording and one regular programme recording or any of the other combinations that include 3 HD channels and one other channel. So being a family of five with 5 televisions and five ATT boxes, we can never have 5 TV's on at the same time, or four TV's and be recording anything else.
We are beyond frustrated, and right now I will either have to find some solution to this, even if it means somehow using some other means to record our programmes, or back to Comcast we go. I don't want to switch back, but sadly this shoe does not fit. If anyone can think of anything that we can do to work around this we would be beyond grateful for your input.
Thank you
