Community poll forum: How many Apple electronic products do you own?

I have owned Apple products in the past, and was very displeased with the way that they are not only incompatable with other vendors' software and hardware, but they are not even compatable with different versions of their own. Any vendor who works in such an unprincipled way to push their own ''latest and greatest'' products can pack up their whole medicine show and haul it down the road.

You wrote software for Apple products in the '70s? That preceded the Apple II, didn't it?

Did yours make the funny squawking and honking noises when you accessed the floppy that wouldn't accomodate a good recipe for a tuna sandwich? Were they up to the 76k level of RAM by then?

How did you like it when they changed to an operating system that sent all of the equipment that preceded the Mac to the garbage can? How about the Word package that required that you embed formatting instructions into the text?

Six months later they went to an OS the sent the Macs to the trash bin. Wow! That was really the Good Old Days, wasn't it? Did you ever meet the guy who did his assembler programs for the Motorola chip while sailing around Cape Horn in that wooden sailboat?

I guess the good times are all gone. (sniff, sniff)

Here in the UK Apple always seem to be the most expensive. Why pay premium when you can buy comparable from other makes much cheaper.

I don't know if a headset will bring negative effects to you body, as long as you don't turn them up to a ridiculous volume, but they will certainly bring negative effects to your mind. I listen to them for a while, then I have to rip them off and stomp on them.

iMac, iBook, iPod, Time Capsule.

To you folks who say Apple is restrictive and expensive...iPod plays practically every sound file made. Mac runs several OSes natively. How much is you time, piece of mind, sanity worth? Macs last longer, keep their value longer and are cheaper to maintain. And the user experience is years ahead of anything else.

I personally dont own any apple products. I cant see why anyone would buy apple computers they dont support some software plus they are to expensive i looked at the new macbook when i was purchasing my notebook computer and i just wasnt impressed it was light but it just wasnt satisfying so in my eyes apple is just the company that keeps microsoft from having a monoply a second rate company that should stick to mp3 players

If you can find a state where that is legal, do up a spare noose and give me a call.

Currently I own a Quad G5, Airport Extreme base, iBook G4 800, and a 60Gb iPod video.

I used to own and operate my own computer consulting business, working on Windows based operating systems. I built and repaired computers from Dos up through Windows XP. After using the iBook for the first time, and realizing that it ran circles around a Windows based machine with TWICE the specs, I used a few more. After about a year of running the G4 laptop alongside 4 different Windows machines, 2 of them hand built, one Dell, and one HP, I decided to make the move to Apple.

Apple computers have proven to require LESS maintenance, less troubleshooting, less upkeep, etc. They run longer, last longer, and take care of themselves. And their re-sale value even 4 to 5 years after they come out is VERY high. 5 year old Apple systems will sell for more than 60 percent of their initial cost. You can't say that about a Windows machine.

I still work on Windows based machines, and make between $35 an hour and $50 an hour to repair them. I almost never get called to work on an Apple. The point being, for all of the people who just posted to complain about Apple price, you get what you pay for. Buy a $500 Dell, and then call me when you want it fixed. Repeatedly. After a while, you'll have invested enough that you could have BOUGHT an Apple that did NOT need the repair.

Either way, I'll happily take your money to fix it

Apple makes great products, but they don't fit my budget.

PS': needless to say that i don't and will never own a PC (although this has been typed on my company's PC, trojan horse applelised via Safari), but do own some Linux devices

I'd love to own a Mac.
Not sure what Mac's cost in US, but here they're double that of PC's.
I've just (a year ago) purchased a Dell PC.
3.6GHz Dual Core, 4GB, 500GB, nVIDIA 512MB.
Quite powerful when it was new.
Cost NZ$2500.
For an equivalent Mac system it would've been NZ$4800.
Until thay become reasonably priced, I'll stay with PC's.

The same goes for I-Pods compared to other brands of MP3.
Same with the I-Phone.

I own two products: A Mac Mini and a MacBook. I've chosen to abandon Windows based computers because my main interest in computers is using them as personal and business tools. I am not at all interested in tweaking and scanning for malware and hoping that the operating system works properly. Although not perfectly, Apple computers work in a way that allows me do do what I want, rather than being it their mercies.
