Community poll forum: What brand of digital camera do you own?

When my son was born 5 years ago I got the Olympus, mainly because it was cheap and had a sliding cover over the lens, so it was in essence kiddy-proof!

But it got stolen middle of last year in a burglary at my house.

I had wanted a decent Canon SLR for a LOOOOOOONG time, so I decided now was the time to take the plunge, I took out a LOAN! and got the Canon 30D 8.2 megapixel, 5 frames/sec, with the 17 - 85mm IS USM lens (much better than the stock 18 - 55mm lens, and the 580EX flash as well.

Have enjoyed it for nearly a year now, and love it to bits. Quick to setup, excellent at high ISO's, and yes, I have been is a situation where my sister's D70s with 3 fr/sec was slow and my 5fr/sec made a significant difference. Want to get the 70 - 300mm IS USM lens, very expensive, but from what I've seen worth it. Have friends with the normal 70 - 300 4.6, and it's not impressive at all. Luckily RAW mode allows one to tweak the brightness and contrast and sharpness significantly, but I'd prefer a lens that gives great shots straight away.

I own a Sony Cyber-shot 10.1 mega pixel and it is excellent, I am sure that it is able to do more than I realize. But I am very satisfied. It takes beautiful pictures.

I got the Sony DSC-F505V back in 2000. Thats a great camera. It is only 3.3 megapixels but at that time that was the highest I think. I finaly got a new one in 2006 the Sony DSC-H2 which is again a great camera - 6 MP and 12x optical zoom and great pictures. I recently got a Sony DSC-T100, this one was just too good to be true at that size. I got it because of the size - I can carry it around everywhere.

I OWN 2 DIGITAL CAMERAS ONE IS THE NIKON P5000 WHICH I USE FOR BUSINESS SITE SURVEY FOTOS, AND FOR MY RECREATIONAL AND HOBBY PHOTOGRAPHS I OWN A NIKON D80.......AND OWN 4 NIKON LENS AS WELL AS THE NIKON SB600 FLASH AND THE NEW NIKON 105 VR LENS WHICH HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE LENS VERY QUICKLY........

I have two Nikon D200's and a Nikon D70 with an assortment of lenses. While the D200's take great wedding/glamour pictures I find the D70 is the better choice when doing sports or nature photography when having to set up for a picture quickly or risk losing the opportunity.

First digital camera I ever bought and till have to this very day. One big problem is that I never received a recall notice that the connection to recharge the battery was faulty. Now if I need to take a pic I need to hook the charger up in order to have power. This was probably the biggest waste of money Ive ever spent.

A great tele lens and a clever rotating LCD panel, but nothing else - under average colour restitution, and appalling macro capabilities and manual focus. I could not believe this 500$ camera, highly recommended by reviews, could be so inefficient. It will need a big effort from Canon to sell me again a camera. Now happy with a Lumix TZ1 !

Proud and happy owner of a Sony DSC-N1. It's 8 mexapixel, has the possibility of manual setting and a 3 inch touchscreen.

A nice tight good looking camera, that takes great pictures, but does have it's flaws like any camera.

I am very happy with the touchscreen, because it enables me to quickly manually alter settings like exposure, diafragma and shutter speed.

I currently have a Sony CD Mavica with the CD that you put in, and a Sony digital video camera. Like them both, wish the video camera was a little easier to download video with. The CD Mav, just plug it in and your done.
When I bought the CD Mav, digitals had not been out that long, those little cards you put in did not hold many pictures and if you was on a trip had to carry several with you until you got home to download them, with the CD Mav it could hold in upwards of 500-800 pics at low resolution less changing of the disks, however once you download the pics and clear them from the disk the max you can reuse the disk for was for only about 75-100 pics.
So the CD Mav only has 2 drawbacks, 1) a lag in the time between the time you push the button and when it takes the picture, 2) No ability to change lenses.
I am now seriously considering changing/up grading to another digital with higher megapixals and interchangable lenses.

I have a Nikon D70 that I purchased through an auction on Ebay about a year ago. The newer Nikon's are lighter and more powerful, but this old standby does everything I want. When I do eventually by a new camera, it will probably be a Nikon.

I use Sony Cybershot...have never had a problem, it takes great pictures, the screen is wide and it captures more than you think. It has a Carl Zeiss lens and is 6.0 Mega Pixels...most digital cameras are good these days and they all seem to offer the same facilities and they are not that expensive

Currently a Sony owner... getting a Canon DSLR probably around tomorrow. Was thinking of going for a Nikon D300 but I'm going to travel with that cash instead.

A very nice camera. Had a D70 before this one, liked it too.

I have used it a lot and like its 28mm wideangle and its macro. It is versatile. It offers manual control.

I don't like the time between pressing the shutter and the actual taking of the photo.

Since it is my first digital camera I don't know how others perform with respect with the lag between shutter pressing and photo taking.

Otherwise, I am pretty satisfied with the camera.

I have been a serious camera user since 1966 when the Army trained and employed me as a photographer. At that time I purchased a Nikon F which I used on the job. Since then I have remained true to Nikon until I purchased the FZ-50 last year. I have not regretted my decision to switch for one minute.

First let me deal with the criticism of excess noise often leveled against the camera. For what I shoot, mostly landscapes and wildlife, it just does not exist. With the fine image stabilization built into the camera, I rarely have any need to use anything faster than ISO 100 which even Panasonic's worst critics admit is not plagued by any noise problem. When I am faced with conditions which do introduce some noise I find it is eliminated to my satisfaction in post processing.

The superb 10x Leica lens on the best engineered body make this the best using camera in my experience. Every control is exactly where I want it. I do not have to dig through layers of menues to make changes I need. The well designed, optically stabilized lens allows me to travel light, packing only one converter rather than bagful of additional lenses.

All in all, the FZ-50 is by far my favorite in 40 years of camera ownership.
