Community poll forum: Do you use Internet Explorer 7?

Our office received word from our tax-support company that we needed to upgrade to IE7. Wisely, this was only done on one PC as a test. As soon as we did, a few other programs began acting quirky, balking, or failing to run at all.

By reverting back to IE6, the problems disappeared. There was no apparent connection between the two at first glance, but it was IE7 that was at fault. After all this, we discovered that the upgrade to IE7 wasn't really needed by the tax-support company - they just wanted us to be prepared.

Be prepared to revert to IE7, should these types of issues pop up for you.

But I'm unimpressed. For starters, when I first had it installed, I would get errors anytime I tried to close the browser. Ridiculous. Those went away with an update, but still -- why ship like that?

Beyond that, I'm sure that I could learn to love IE7, but at this point it's simply too late. My entire browser experience has become FF dependent. Everything from my plugins to where everything is positioned on the screen to the keyboard shortcuts. It all makes sense to me and I can browse with FF completely effortlessly.

If I wasn't so happy with FF, I'd be willing to re-learn something else (I tried this with Opera for awhile because it offered the ability to remember your tabs when re-opening the program, as well as the ability to close individual tabs w/o selecting them first), but until FF does something to really frustrate me, I have no reason to bother.

But it's still not a patch on Frefox. Hellishly slow due to this anti-phishing thing (I think that's what's slowing it down).
Firefox is still my main browser, but you know, you need IE for ActiveX and other MS stuff. Haven't they infringed some sort of copyright or patent with Firefox?

I really have no need to use IE7 I don't even use IE6 unless I have to (for some work websites and testing). I use Firefox and love it. I use Linux on my home machine so of course Firefox is my browser there, but even on my work laptop I use Firefox and basically block IE from any internet traffic ( either through the firewall or by setting the proxy to localhost) so that I am not at risk.
I set up IE7 for testing at work and my first impression was that why didn't MS just use Firefox and put there name in it. I then noticed the differences. For one the Menu on top was gone, and turning it on was easy but to get it on top was another story. I can't believe how or why the people at MS would not make it possible to put the menu on top where almost every program in existence has it. I searched MS for an answer an didn't find any. I then found a site that explains what registry settings need to be changed in order to be moved back to where it belongs(not a good answer).
My overall experience is that I am not impressed and the biggest security problem with IE6(activeX) still exists in IE7.
So my question to the people who enjoy IE7 is that if you like the way it looks and feels then why not try using Firefox which is very similar and more secure.

But can you play video trailers and what add-ons did you have to install?

I am not that savvy when it comes tothis stuff but after I upgraded to IE7 on our main home computer if you logged in as my wife you had to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to shut down a page. If you logged in as me it was fine. When I put it on our laptop it could not find our wireless network anymore. Could find the neighbors secure one but not mine. Problems may not have been related to IE7, like I said I am not too savvy, but the issues all arouse within 24 hours of upgrading to IE7. Then when I tried a restore on the laptop to remove IE7 it would not take. After a home visit by a computer guru and $150 IE7 was removed and the laptop and main computer are working fine again.

I have IE7 on my computer. In some ways its good and other ways I hate it. For sites that don't work well with IE7 I have had too use Firefox. Ever since I still use IE7 for some things but using Firefox more these days. Before IE7 come out , I use too stand bye IE loyally but not anymore.

IE7 installed yes, use no, like most MicroSoft Affilliated programs it is just a baby toy. I still use what I think the best Netscape 7.2x, their 8.0x is just a peace of junk. Keep improving 7.2 I have used Fire Fox and Mozella and find Net. 7.2 beats them hands down at least for the work I do on the net, running two blogs, home page, news paper, my banking, email and investing and reasearch. What more could I ask for?

I installed IE 7 because my daughter uses it and she's always bringing home viruses through IE. After the install I tried to run IE 7 but it locked up and ran the CPU (2.4 GHz P4) to 100%. I had to back it out. Thankfully the rest of the family uses Firefox.

I will say that I was able to backout the upgrade and revert to IE 6 without much of a problem.

I would never use IE 7 because I'm a Mac user (OS X 10.4) and MS stopped supporting IE for the Mac since v5.2; however I rarely even use that. It is clunky, slow and the interface is ugly. Altho I have several browsers, including Safari, I much prefer Firefox for its ease of use and speed.

IE 7 was wreaking havok with my ability to use my e-mail id (it changed many of the letters in my id to "*"'s, which many websites (including this one) objected vehemently to. My ISP attributed it to IE 7's higher level of security features and told me to uninstall it, which proved to be no easy task in itself I can certainly identify with Norma's plight. Although I am not a computer neophyte, it took no small amount of effort to finally get rid of IE 7 - I swear that it was not in the "add/remove programs" list the many times I looked and Microsoft's posted solution assumes that you have it installed on your "C" drive, which I did not. Eventually I was successful in removing it from my system and the problems attributed to it have disappeared.

NO I DO NOT LIKE Internet Explorer 7,it has me on yahoo and i can not get internet explorer,it is mixed up with CNET FormsWindows internet Explorer provided by Yahoo!Canada.So now how do i get out of this mease.How do i stop the emails that i get and have tryed bloking them but the bloking does not work,and these emails carry bad virissis and corrupt my computor.Can you tell me how to stop this,thay come with no email address.You may phone me ,,1-780-882-0353

I downloaded 7 but sme software did not work. Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 basically did not work at all. Because of 7.0 some of my service providers free additional software would not work. I went back to 6.0 and and HAPPY.

I do use internet explorer 7. I do like it but it still has a few bugs in it, in favorites. If you click on start all programs and go to your favorites from there the icons that is besides your web sites you go to have open are run with and some don't. Everything is fine when you only go through favorites in internet explorer 7. Sometimes they have the wrong icons besides the webites that you visited.
