Community poll forum: How many megapixels does your digital camera have?

But then my "digital camera" is also my cell phone, and I hardly ever use (or need) one so it is good enough for me. It has a decent enough quality to use it for a camera and not just wasting space on my phone (like any of those other 1.3 mp camera phones or even worse, VGA ones).

My phone is the Sony Ericsson K750i.

We have the Pentax Optio SV, it's compact, easy to use and takes reasonable snapshots. It's the current version of the old Kodak Brownie...

4MP, if anyone's counting - 10X optical zoom, 3X digital - just about the right balance for me. Never have printed any pics larger than 5X7, so 4MP gives me all the detail necessary. Still end up reducing pics for emailing (yeah, I still email people on dial-up)... All in all, suits my needs and the price was right. Oh, and BTW...it actually LOOKS like a camera!!

i don't like the results and I try never go to near the maximun, but it has saved a few moments here and there.

I'm sad to hear this bit of news, though maybe not so surprised. My father-in-law got me interested in Minolta cameras with his X700 SLR, and when I decided to take the dive into digital photography I stayed brand loyal and bought a Minolta Dimage S414 which I still use. It takes good images, that is, when I can keep a set of Ni-MH batteries charged long enough to take some shots with it. Not to mention, the camera says the batteries are dead, but sometimes I can take them out, shuffle them around and put 'em back in the camera, and voila, they're good as recharged. I put up with the headaches because I can't afford to lay down money for a newer camera for awhile, and I'm pretty much a casual shooter anyway so I don't take a lot of pics. They had some interesting concepts but seemed like they didn't have a good, reliable basic camera as an anchor for their line. Well, maybe I'll be looking at Canon or Nikon for my next digicam.

Try looking at a Panasonic DMC-FZ7, or DMC-FZ50, you won't be disappointed with either.

I went into Best Buy yesterday to buy a Cannon SD600 and ended up buying an HP Photosmart R727. The selling point for me was the "knitting" feature,auto redeye removal and the usual one; the HP was $50.00 cheaper! I like it except I noticed that in bright outside light that the LCD display totally washed out. Without a seperate view finder, the camera really is useless outside.

I'm currently working in Iraq as a quality consultant. This small camera with it's high definition is perfect for my work. The large, bright screen works very well in the Iraqi sun.

I've never needed more. I shoot @ 1024 x 768 & seldom need more. This gives me a 5.12'' x 6.83'' printout on most inkjet printers, which I can make into a 4'' x 6'' print (approx.) easily.

If I were going to need an 8" x 10", I'd use a higher resolution, like 2048 x 1360 or more. But this is VERY seldom needed.

It also has a 4.4X optical zoom. My wife's newer HP R818 has a 5X optical zoom and 5 megapixel max. resolution. I've set it to 1280 x 1024.

I use a Sony 3.2 Cybershot and love it. It makes great pictures and my only dissatisfaction comes from the slow, sluggish shutter speed. Please Sony, do something about that!

My HP 735 is almost same as new, and does a very good job. But it looks like I'm well behind the crowd already! I bought mine in an extremely good deal bundled with a printer, SD card and photo paper a couple of Christmases ago, so I've been very pleased. However, with the prices I'm seeing on new cameras with twice the resolution as mine (and then some), I might just get bitten by the bug to update.

Recently aquired a Vivitar 8400 series 1, point and shoot, with more features than I really need. What a great little camera ! 8 MP really makes a difference when I set the quality to "fine" and the normal setting takes great everyday pics. First Vivitar I've owned and certainly won't be the last.

I have a canon Powershot A520 4XMegathings X4 Optical Zoom...I am an expert at point, shoot and hope it turns out allright.
I use the digital zoom only when looking at what I have captured, so I can work out if I can use my computer to get rid of the extraneous garbage in the background/ middle ground/ foreground.

Own and love my Olympus E-1 DSLR. 5MP is more than enough to print beautiful prints up to 16"X20". I think the race to cram more pixels on the same size sensors is probably over. The new competition is lower noise at higher ISO's. Shop for features, servicing dependability and price and forget about the number of pixels.
