Firefox has better stability, security, and support
Microsoft has too many issues with most of it's products. I use Incredimail for a more secure, supported, stable and loaded with options email choice too. Look out Microsoft - you're no longer top dog

I've been using Camino for about two weeks, after I was turned on to it at the Apple Store. Camino is Firefox, except especially designed for the Mac, so they've gotten rid of a lot of the PC stuff. Firefox is good, but Camino----much better, much faster.

The reason IE6 loads faster is because you load it when you boot up your system, it is part of windows, and part of the 2-3 minute boot up you deal with every time you restart your system.
Add Firefox to your "Start-Up" programs, and you'll wait no more!
IE sits in the background waiting for you to need it, so can Firefox.
If that's what's keeping you from running Firefox WISE UP!
If IE had to load when you clicked it, it would take 3x as long as Firefox, and it IS NOT FASTER.

Like the post above, Firefox loads up slower because it is not dormant in your memory like IE is.

But there are addons that you can download to tune up Firefox and have it loads/runs faster.

Give that a try.

For me, I don't mind the 2 secs it takes for my Firefox to load on my Ubuntu box. And I will take the 30 seconds of FF instead of unsafe IE anytime.

He probably doesn't have enough memory to be using a modern browser, or has a great deal of spyware acquired during the use of IE has clogged his memory. Before Firefox can load all the spyware will have to be put in a pagefile/swap.

Either way more memory would mitigate the issue.

Hmmm. one reason is that you're using Windows XP. My Firefox browser takes about 3 seconds to load, and I use Windows 98SE on my main machine. XP on another one, and it's the worst OS since Windows ME.

If you set the Firefox opening page to ''blank'', it will load faster. But, ya know what? Even if it was slower, it's worth the wait. And this ''Send Error Report'' (when IE crashes) is a joke. I wonder what happens when ''Microshaft'' gets those? If they ever do.

When you decide to 'switch' to a real browser, just click on the FF icon and go get your coffee.

Oh, another thing about Mozilla 'getting their act together': Mozilla patches trouble spots as soon as they're discovered, sometimes almost before it happens.

Why? So many reasons... Tabbed browsing, great extensions (mouse gestures, Foxmarks, adblock especially).

With the Debug Menu, I can make the sites which I browse think that I am using either Mozilla 1.1, Netscape 7.0 or 6.2.2 or 4.79, Mac MSIE 5.2, Windoz MSIE 6.0 or Konqueror 3, OR Automatically impersonate any of the above! I have Tabs and everything else needed except the ability to creat pages.

On the Mac, Safari is definitely the king of the hill. I know I use it as my default browser, but compatibility with Windows Live Mail is poor. However, Safari includes a browser emulation mode, in which you can have the browser render pages and emulate a range of other browsers out there, great for web developers and designers like myself.

Only problem is to enable this menu, you have to type in a terminal command. Which, I've now forgotten.

Great.

The mixture of Safari + Camino/Firefox is however, unbeatable for compatibility.
