Enough rope to hang on ...

Telephone conversations are banal on a good day, so they don't need them for anything important.

If you plan ahead (remember those days of thinking?), they don't need one.

If there's an emergency, there are public phones - real emergencies, you can walk into a store and beg for help.

For self created emergencies - stayed out too late, went off with weirdos etc. Kids only do this because they have a phone and can call home and whine.

No phone teaches responsibility.

Whenever I pick up a phone, I ask myself if I need to do this or am I just getting too sad to find real ways of being busy or bored. Then I wait a few minutes and if I still think I need to make the call, I do it.
