Community poll forum: Which antispyware utility would you use?

Simple, Buffer Zone.. I've never had any problem after installing BZ.. Before, cheese, it was like i was in a war zone

I have ran different antispyware utilitys and always 1 would find more than the other. I was told about Ad-Aware SE Personal and it was free. I gave it a try and it found what the others did and a few more. I have deleted the others and only use this one now.

Personal Edition. I have Computer Associates Antivirus but did not like pest patrol and it was $ as some of the others. Tried Windows Defender Beta 2 and it used more space than I needed. Had Yahoo Toolbar with Antispy & popup blocker and it too was not as good and I'm on AOL and SpyZapper doesn't pick up on anything and I deleted the AOL Spyware Protection from my registry, it is listed under safety at the top. PestPatrol did find Bonzai Buddies in the registry (14), and it took me some time to find them and delete them. I had a very tough malware once and it took 3 passes with Ad-Aware SE to remove it, one the 2nd attempt, it did not have icons but went straight to Ad-Aware and took care of this very stubborn item. While I use four different antispyware utilities, if I had to choose only one it would be Spybot - Search and Destroy.

A Mac. For the time being, it's pretty much spyware-free.

For my PC? Adware. A couple of other spyware programs whose names escape me. Why do I need 3 programs on my PC and I don't need any on my Mac?

Spybot also comes with a system monitoring tool called TeaTimer. Any time that a system change is about to be made, you are given an option to accept or deny (with remember my answer) any of them.

No one single anti spy app does it all, but making informed decisions about setting changes works every time!

spybot search and destroy with tea timer active...zone alarm and AVG 7.1 free really do knock down most attacks...except for the damn microsoft adware from the ''defender''...i have mcafee virus scan and privacy service as well. i don't see pop ups, i don't have spyware and i control how things are updated...tea timer tells you when something is trying to change your registry....zone alarm lets you control which programs can auto update without permission. and which programs are trying to access the web. really the key is watching where you surf...even if you clean out your cookies...you still have some...and if you are not blocking most cookies...you are not controlling your pop-ups, ad unders, etc. and if you leave your computer up all the time...when do your programs update? you probably need to reboot a couple of times a week to make sure you have the most recent updates. when virus software and spyware update...there is a reason...new info..which means new attacks.
if you play in the trash can, expect a fair share of garbage

Have you noticed if Spysweeper installed tracking spyware of its own?

I too have used the Microsoft antispyware and the adaware program. But neither found the spyware that Webroot Spysweeper found. It has been worth the money to know that some of the harder to find spyware is kept off my computer.

The only reason that the majority of SpySweeper users have the product is that some shill at Best Buy sold it to them. These are the same guys that have told my customers that DDR memory has to be upgraded in pairs, and that the brand name of memory affects compatibility with their computer. If you want to know the truth, ask an expert that does not sell product and has no financial stake in the answer.

Yes, Spysweeper is worth your money. Against other anti spyware and virus progs, Spysweeper seems to get the most off of my computer and even remove some that are not removeable by others such as Spy doc or lavasoft( although in lava's defense they are more spyware I think and dont detect some of those that the sweeper does).

This person hit the nail right on the head. If you want to fix your spyware problem, the best way to do it is by avoiding software prone to spyware infection.

If you're serious about stopping spyware, the best way to do it is to stop using Internet Explorer and use another browser. Opera, Firefox, Safari on the Mac... All of them are more or less immune to "drive by downloads" and ActiveX spyware infections right now.

You need to do some more research or go back to school or something.

BECAUSE MAC's CAN AND HAVE GOTTEN VIRUSES, AND SPYWARE. I do not know why people think that MAC's are so superior to PC that they can't get Viruses or Spyware. I have worked with MAC's that have had both. Yes, PC's do get more attaches, but they are not perfect either. I have worked on both and years ago I knew more about MAC's than I did window's based PC's. But the jobs I worked for and the Military command I was with changed out from MAC's to PC's. But before they did both Jobs I worked at got Viruses on their MAC's. At the time they didn't have Spyware or no one know about it yet.

So as I said I have worked with both MAC's and window's based PC's, and now with everthing I have learned from my time in the Military, and later when I went to college working on my engineering degree I have come to like window's based PC's better then MAC's. The only thing I have not learned to do on a PC that I did on a MAC it how to write my own programs.

That should keep him busy for a while.

I tried to find there program for it but couldn't. I tried to do a chat with the Customer srevice to find the link, but they wanted to to call there customer service number to order the MAC program. I tried telling them that I just needed the link. but the again told me to call their 800 number. But anyway, you can see that Norton has a program. And the links that McAfee has that says that MAC's can get Viruses and Malware also says that McAfee has a program too, but have to jump thru hoops the see it or order it...
