Community poll forum: What brand of printer do you own, and are you happy with it?

My new primary printer is a Canon iP6600D. I had been using a HP970CSE which was configured for a computer with W98. I downloaded the latest driver, which enabled me to use it on my new Dell with WXP. It prints well, but upon upgrading to the Canon printer, I found that the Canon with 6 ink tanks as opposed to the HP with 2 ink tanks, blows the HP out of the water. Mechanically, The Canon,being 4 years newer thinks for itself alot better than the HP and performs more tricks. I love the Canon. The only thing I found out, is the HP ink cartridges are way more available than Canon cartridges. Canon cartridges aren't always available in the model you want. While I'm still using the original ones, I'm scouting the stores to see where I can get new ones when I will need them.

I get my ink for my canon's from www.supermediastore.com. I tried the generic inks and they work just as well as the canon inks, and are about $3.00 per cart., vs. the canon price of $12-13 cart.

Got an S-330 for $53 at Circuit City coupla year ago does a Great job. I've always bought Canons.

I agree. Cost efficient and quick printing. Had an HP before, the quality of prints on the HP were not very good, always had lines in photo.

Canon, which I own now, is great. Photos are excellent now. Very happy with Canon. Love that each color is separate, and it will still print if one cartidge is empty.

I own an Epson Stylus C66 and have been extremely happy with it from day one. In the past I have owned a Canon, an HP, and a Lexmark printer and tossed them all in the garbage not too long after I bought them. The Epson print quality is superb and the inks are soooooo much cheaper than any other brand (particularly if you're willing to use generic inks).

I am now, and forever shall be, a diehard Epson fan.

I started with a xerox (6 years ago)then got a cannon s400, then s450 as I print off lots of things for school crafts I needed something cheap to run my c66 prints just as good as my mums HP and I get my ink from a club buy in bulk and they are only 2.99 (2.99 for cannon too)each (12.00 for all 4), mums is 29.00 for just one coloured set of 3 24.00 for the black I have the cannon s450 for quick worksheets etc and use my Epson for photos which are of good quality never used a photo developer shop for well over 4 years now Love Epson printers

While not called a photo printer I have been happy with the photo print quality on HammerMill Premium Photo Paper.

Yep, FASST LN is correct. The NEC Silentwriter 95 Postscript laser is a fine printer ... it just keeps going and going.

Eager to resume using this workhourse now that I have a new laptop running Windows Vista.

1. Can you recommend a source for drivers?

2. And what's the best way to connect this parallel-port printer to a USB port?

I had been using Epsons for several years but decided to try the Photosmart 3310 because it was one of the few machines with a stand alone fax and the output speed is far faster than the Epson. Photo quality might be slightly better from Epson but for an all-in-one, reliability, (after four months no probs) and support, the HP is a definite winner.

The Dell 3100 is impressive that's for sure, and by a company that has by undying loyalty as far as computers go...can't beat that! The printer is fast (but like you said leaves a little to be desired on speedy color printing) and has excellent print quality. The only thing that REALLY stinks, but I suppose is unavoidable is the price of the toner. It literally costs almost as much as the printer to purchase a full set of toner ($250, check http://www.dell.com out!). And in my small office we have to replace color cartridges at least three or four times per year, which adds up quick. One thing I've tried is buying compatible ink, which though some people look down on it, it'll save you about $100 per full set purchase and I can't tell a difference in quality. Overall though, excellent printer, sweet price, and beautiful quality. Keep it up Mikie!

Just finished printing out three lovely albums from the last year - over 100 pages in each - in rich photo color. The family loves them, and I love that the Stylus has been so troublefree. If only my last printer (a Brother C9300) had been so.

lets see .. you got a printer from goodwill for 5 bucks and you expect it to work perfectly .. further you blame epson because it doesnt .. further others and not buying epson because of your bad experience with epson (or perhaps goodwill) ...

people give things to goodwill because they either dont work or maybe they just couldnt figure out how to make them work or they are just helping out by giving things they dont need ... people buy things from goodwill to (1) help a charity (2) to take a chance on being able to make it work (thats a gamble if you are not familiar with how to fix stuff) ..

near as i know not many companies extend warranties to thrift shop purchases ... and should epson or any other company be held respossible for 2nd/3rd hand purchases ... and should someone not buy a product because another found one in the trash that didnt work ...

i doubt that your cx5400 has significant design flaws but likely is just a blown printer someone gave away.. most people cant judge if its repairable or not so you, the purchaser must make that judgment ...

and you mentioned the epson scanner as being bad also based on your experience with goodwill ... well you are putting down probably one of the best scanners around (according to many reviews) ... anyhow i am not aligned with any company but will speak up when i see what i perceive as an injustice ..

hope you get your printer working (i would even help you if i could, i do that a lot) but i dont think your issue is with epson ...

The CX5400 seems to have a major defect. If you search CX5400, you will see that the printing heads/nozzles give out. I have a CX5400 and CX6600. After 2 years, my CX5400 stopped printing anything. But, I called Seiko-Epson and they will repair it at no charge and even pay for shipping. I was offered a "good buy" on another machine but I really like the CX5400 since it restores old photos well.

I have always used Epson inks and maintain it well.

I'm interested in the Canon MP780 and was curious as to what negative comments or experiences you've had with this model. Would you recommend any other all-in-one printer? Thanks.
