Community poll forum: How many megapixels does your digital camera have?

nikon D70 > 6.2 MP effective 6.1 MP

I use a Canon C5 as I think it is important to have a high resolution to edit your photographs. When finished with the edits, they can be reduced to send to web pages, email, etc.

My current camera is a Sony DSCS75 3.2 MP. I bought it open box. I did all my homework, and went shopping for the Sony Mavica, with a Carl Zeiss lens, but I'm a sucker for a bargin, and ended up with a discontinued camera. I THOUGHT I was buying a DSCP5. The clueless saleperson assured me it was the same one.
At any rate I don't use it much. The LCD screen is too small, as is the viewfinder. I want a higher MP camera, already picked out. Also a Sony, The 7.1MP SD550. I have a great intrest in photography, but my current camera just dosen't cut it. It seemed like a toy camera when my boyfriend got a Nikon 8900. Now that's a Digital Camera.Outstanding photo's. BUT, there is a small problem with pressing the a delay between pressing the shot and taking the photo.
I am choosing the SD550 because of it's size and large LCD screen, plus the lower price. And it's only a less than a MP smaller.

I've never had anyone clarify for me, how memories can be entrusted to digital cameras. Wirh 35mm, I have a negative which I can store in a safety deposit box without fear of gross degradation (I have family negatives going back decades). On the other hand, I have CD's with data on them that have degraded within a couple of years. With 35mm, I have a photo that is chemically bonded to the paper. With digital, its nothing more than ink, spit onto a page. Doesn't seem quite as permanent or impervious to the elements. And, quite frankly, I think you'd have to spend thousands on a digitial camera to get the same quality as a 35mm worth a couple of hundred. Am I wrong?

A twice hand me down digicam. Once from my sis and bro-in-law, and yet again from my dad... both who gave it away when they got better digicams.

If I were to get a new digicam, I'd definately go for more/better features including but not limited to:

-more compact - not only is this cam physically bigger than those compact models, but it's also bulkier, or juts out in certain places more making it even less pocketable. It's still bigger than "bar of soap" form factor digicams even if I were to saw off the jutting parts out

-more MPs - 3.2MP is nice, but 5 is even better for a reasonably low price. In a pinch, you should be able to lower the MP to save space.

-at least VGA video - Obviously, a $1300 camcorder is far superior, but I don't have the $$ nor do i need the extra quality and features of it.

-takes SD cards - My PDA alr uses SD cards. Many of my friends and families use SD (some Mem Sticks) so there's good compatibility there.

-warms up quickly - this one u have to wait 3 seconds or so

-auto opens lens - not hard to do, but is a nuissance on this digicam none of the less

My trusty Epson 3100Z has 3.1 megs with hardware interpolation to 2544 x 1904 (which works fabulously) and I'm not ready to "upgrade" yet.
When I AM ready--it'll be an Epson digital SLR.

3.3 Mp. Don't need any more unless you want HUGE file sizes/picture!

As you know, GREAT resource.

Purchased this camera for the wife. Easy to use with auto setting for those quick shots. Also offers plenty of a settings a photo geek would love (Av, Tv, etc.). Great color rendition. Docking station makes downloading to computer a snap. Lot's of bang for the buck.

8 megapixels in the Canon 20D

What can I say? I've had it for a while and it still works.

I feel it is unfair to judge or compare solely upon the # up Megapixels. I just bought my camera and had to take into account the optical and digital zoom abilities to be fair. I bought a 4mp. with 12 optical zoom and 4 digital instead of a 10 optical with 5 digital. I lost 2 in the zoom count but gained 2 in the optical clarity ability. I felt it was a wise trade. Using other lenses from close-up to wide-angle to telephoto seem to warrant the higher optical caliber. Ask to judge more fairly. TLC

I have 3 Canon EOS digitals. Two of them have 10MP and the other has 8MP. People often ask advice from me when shopping for a new camera. I always tell them that a 3MP camera will give them a fairly sharp 8X10 uncropped print, but if they crop or print wide-format they need to go 5MP or larger. I also tell them to buy a brand known for quality like Canon, Sony, Nikon, Pentax, etc. A mediocre quality lens will definitely make a high end camera's results look like they were taken with a lower MP camera.
