Community poll forum: How much did you pay for your computer?

Bought an eMachines on sale and have been very pleased ever since. It has an AMD Athlon 1.6 with 512mb memory, 40G HD, DVDrom, CDR. I added a Sound Blaster Live sound card, nVidia video card, extra 40G HD, and another 512MB memory. It's an excellent computer and I've NEVER had any problems with it.

This computer was $750 after rebates and it was loaded. XP pro, Pentium 4 3.00, 512 ram, 80 gig hd and more software than I have ever seen preloaded on a computer. Very reliable with good customer support (used once).

WOW I fell into the 12% group of under $500, that was about 4 years ago. Let me explain about that one, and yes I got it NEW. I was looking around for a new comp since both my laptop and old reconditiond computer we're both dying (of old age), and way too slow for the internet (both comps had Win 95 in them). Wal-mart was having a special sale for that one Saturday for 3 hours only of a new computer for $299, a Microtel lic; out from HP. With the NEW so-called VIA3 chips in them. At that time CPU's were just hitting 1 gig. So I picked up 3 of them on the Inter site walmart.com. One for me, and one for each kid in my house. The've since moved out to collage...and there comps?...have since died and went to CPU heaven from old age, abuse, trojans and spam oh my. But mine is about ready to die from slow age again (only a 800 mhz cpu 20 gig hardrive lol), Dell is offering me a new system about 2 gig cpu with a BIG 80 gig HD, not bad. I can deal with that.

It started out as a 486 box in the early 90s. I think my last upgrade removed the last remnant of that first case since my latest motherboard came with a soundboard. I keep about 2 years behind in technology so motherboard and processor are only $150. Sometimes I have need new memory too, which increases the upgrade cost. I'm still running the original W2K upgrade from Win 95 I did in 2000 (with service packs).

Next year, or whenever Vista comes out, I may actually buy a whole new computer!

Oh, wait, I still have the 3 1/2" floppy drive!

I love it, but unfortunately Apple did not include a connection for the phone line, seemingly as no one uses dial-up anymore - I still do, as Cox cable online sucked. So the modems have been ordered for both new IMac's - mine and my mothers. Should be here around Dec 1st.
This is replacing my original Imac, my bondi-blue 98 233 - this computer has had more ram installed to max it out, and the pram battery replaced - and will go to a good friend of mine - I will miss my bondi-blue baby, but I will go and visit it --- My bondi-blue has been running mac 0/s 9.22, now has 386 or so or ram, and uses Netscape 7.02, with Netscape 4.80 and icab as back-up browsers.

Originally, my bondi-blue cost about $799.00, and my new Apple IMac is $1299.00, with a 3% discount for paying by check or cash.

Less than $500 and no regrets - but - it was an "almost new" one (and I trust the guy), I didn't need a monitor or a printer, and my needs were very specific - and easy, though he did put it together and install everything for me.

My brother-in-law is computer smart and put together a Windows ME for himself and for me. My only cost was to help paint their 3 season porch this past summer. Not a bad payoff since I love to paint anyway!

The only thing I paid retail for is the OS. I build my own PC's with parts from ther machines I've had. I usually upgrade the MoBo, CPU and Ram every 2 generations. An average of 4 years. for a total relpacement from the last compilation. I may upgrade the Video card to keep up with curent games. I just stay away from proprietary systems now like IBM, Sony, HP and Dell.

I paid about $900 for a Compaq SR1234NX PC with 2.8GHz Pentium 4 Processor, 512MB RAM, a sh*tty 80GB hard drive and a computer that was so instable I had to restore it to factory settings for at least 4 times to make it not start all by itself, delete my browers and files by itself, and screw up programs by itself (note that in every symptoms, there is the word "itself") This is just literally a piece of crap. Next time, I would buy a more expensive HP or a Sony, or somewhat like that. Compaq made nice computers, what happened? Is it just my particular computer? Or is this low-quality products is present in other Compaq PC's, too?

I paid about $680 for my PC. It has a Pentium 4 processor, 512 MB RAM, 160 HD, floppy drive (really!), CD/DVD+/-RW Double Layer Drive, and 9-in one USB and card reader.
I do mostly text work on it, digital photos, and attach numerous gadgets (PDA, camera) Ilike it better than the DELLs I work on at work.

it has a 22 crt monitor ,boston surrond speakers w/ sub.decent graphics card,maxed memory 768-2,hard disk.160 gig.no problems wit it,major ones yet,running windows me!---gateway is quality PC.my next upgrade is a viewsonic 19' lcd.overall can't complain.
