Community poll forum: What type of device do you use as a portable MP3 player?

I've had an Extra for a long time...has served me welll except for one time the harddrive head actualy got stuck and i had to bang the thing to get it going again. Then I got a free ipodmini from a promo thinger, pretty good but now almost out of date...but very convienient for traveling from campus to campus

I bought it on craigslist and have tried everything I can think of --changing all the settings, but I'm either doing something wrong or I bought a lemon. The music/voice will only play in much slower than normal speed.

I've tried adjusting the EAX Audio time-scale setting to 1.50, but it won't speed-up enough to listen at a normal speed. I tried many times on various settings with a CD I ripped and also an audio book, and neither works.

I also seem to have some trouble with downloading the installation CD - but I can try that again.

well i own a 30 GB iPod and i have iTunes but i wanted to know if there was any way i could import all of my songs from my iPod back onto iTunes without them getting erased on my iPod (all my songs were deleted from iTunes.) any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a sony NW-HD5. It's got better sound, a more durable body, and it costs less than the iPod. If you want to listen to music get a sony. If you want to look at pictures on a tiny screen, have hardware problems, and spend all the extra $$$ to do so, then hey, go for the ipod.

I have at least three different CD players that play MP3s just fine thank you. My favorite is the one in the car that will hold up to ten disks. Both of my DVD players, as well as the Karaoke machine in my classroom, will play MP3s if I want them to. The main disadvantage with an MP3 however, is that it is hard to manipulate outside of the computer environment. I can fast forward or reverse with a Wave file, and basically all I can do with an MP3 is listen. If I wasnt to explore the song a little, change the key, slow it down to catch a riff or an obscure line, or even isolate a phrase, MP3 is not the way to go. Oddly enough, I can do most of these things sitting at my computer, so if they ever make an MP3 player that is as flexible as a computer player, I might gain a bit of interest I suppose.

I'd like to get some sort of portable device to carry along while out walking the dog, or on car trips, or while working around the house. The question is what device is appropriate and how much memory do I need for two or three titles and perhaps some language lessons?

I've read that an ipod cannot be used for books. (But my DH has an ipod loaded with language lessons, that, to me, are the same as books.) Is this true? I've read that Creative MP 3 players are recommended for books. Any confirmation?

Any chance that Japanese type manga will become available for download? In which case I'd need a good screen.

Not as cool as an iPod, but a fraction of the price! I have a 256mb Creative MuVo. It's smaller than a Nano, and is a USB flash drive, so I can use it for file storage too. The interface is pretty good, and the included software is easy to use (it's also compatible w/ iTunes, which I use anyway).

Only problem is track arrangement, which is automatically sorted alphanumerically - unless the tracks are already arranged by number, they get out of order and I have to go back and rename my song files (i.e., 01 song.mp3 as opposed to song.mp3) so I can listen to them in order. There is a shuffle feature, but it doesn't support playlists.

But aside from that, it's great. Holds about 3 1/2 to 4 high-quality mode CD's, about the size of a bic lighter, and only cost about $60.

It's an excellent player with great sound and easy to use. I would not recommend players made by that co.,they never respond to tech. support questions. If you grasp things easily as I, then buy one, if not, other units have reliable support.

I only use the Palm Zire-72.

It simply does everything. MP3. WAV. etc. You only need the software. Most is simply on the internet from a simple search and download.

This is a great player with iPhone/iPhone like touch screen. Screen size is about 2.8 inch, I believe. It also supports playing back of MP4 and audio recording.

I use my Treo 650 with a 1GB SD card. That give me good amount of music storage.

My wish to Santa (may be too late for this year) is to have a Treo with storage like the iPod running iTunes with Bluetooth Stereo headset with microphone, so that i can make phone call, listen to music 'wireless'
