Creative Zen Touch - 20 Gig
I have the 20 gig Zen Touch and wish I had the 40 Gig unit. The I-pod was a considered choice and, for accessories, the I-pod is what vendors are supporting. However, the proprietary software, non-support for other formats, and, originally, only for Apple, were considered negatives. Also, a premium cost for the i-pod and it's accessories, like all other apple products, was a factor. After saying that, these mp3 players ARE REPLACING the racks of cds in cars and a superior solution to transporting AND storage of your music provided 1. You already have or are building a large music database, 2. A lot of patience to convert music to MP3/WMA/ETC, 3. A lot of patience to catalog and load the music into the MP3 player, 4. A pc with a large hard drive and plenty of speed, 5. A better mp3 burner/catalog software than Windows Media Player. Like anything else, you have to make an effort to get the results that make a difference. In the end, you face this same regimen whether an ipod or creative player and the extra cost for the ipod just isn't worth it.
