The hybrid battery pack for Honda hybrids have an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty, the hybrid battery pack on the Toyota hybrids are warranted for 8 years/100,000 miles. That's much longer than "2-3 years".
The Toyota Prius has been sold since 1997 in Japan, and late 2000 (2001 model) in North America. The only battery replacements that have been required so far has been the 12 volt auxilliary battery, lead acid battery slightly smaller than a standard car battery.
A Prius was used as a taxicab in Vancouver BC starting in 2000, it went over 180,000 miles, required less maintenance than other cabs, never required a battery replacement. It was "retired" in 2004, replaced in the taxi fleet by a newer Prius - but the old Prius taxi was bought and is still used as a personal car by the taxi driver!
