Which Video Editing Software?

Hi There,
I would be grateful for any help anyone might be able to provide.
I am looking for a piece of video editing software, where I am able to "cut" the piece of film into smaller clips and then paste them together to make an edited version of the raw version that I have now.
Basically, I have taken recorded clips from my cam-corder (Hitachi Hybrid DVD/HDD) via VLC as I have lost the original piece of software that cam with the cam-corder (Vision Mixer 3). These recorded clips have been extracted as one 5.5hr "clip"
Ideally, I would like this software to be free even if its on a limited trial period. The main thing that I want is to be able to cut and paste this 5.5hr "clip"

I'll start with http://cinelerra.org/ since it's top of the line of the free apps.

If only Windows then another look at Virtual Dub but many of today's users would be put off by it. It does work, it is free but it is WORK.

For a little money, check out Sony Movie Studio HD.

I'm not sure if it costs a lot or if it has a free trial, but I've known several people who use Sony Vegas and really like it. They've made really nice videos as well. I use to know a few who used it to make music videos for youtube etc

I know a free video editor named Vivideo, you may search "Coolbit" on facebook. and you may get it. I make amazing home movies from all popular videos, audios and photos

Maybe try Ulead media studio r Abobe Premiere. Both products are available like trial version.
