I am very happy with Snapfish. In addition to free storage service, they offer quite a few other services such as providing prints, photo books and personalized stamps.

If you're looking for strictly storage service, maybe Google's Picasa is another on for you to look in to.

Be careful and read the fine print. Some of these sites get the rights to use your images anywhere, anyway they want when you post on their site. I just found out recently that "flickr" is one that does that, another that does that is Google's Picassa web albums. I am familiar with Snapfish, but I don't know their policy on this. If you don't mind giving away some of the rights to your work, those places are fine. They are great actually and very popular.
One site that is very reputable and does not do that is "Pbase".

There are also online drives that allow you to store pictures. These are secured with a login and password. Some of the more common places are xdrive.com and freedrive.

Some nice editing tools and 2G free album space.
I have not looked into it that much yet, but it's pretty darn hard to go wrong with anything "Adobe".
Another plus for the Google Albums is the way they work so smoothly with Picassa (a great free program) Picassa is really spiffy free photography edit, blogging, and catalogue program.(and much more)
These are really great for beginners and people who just want to do family and friends and small edit and sharing. Both have great email functions included as well.
