FYI: New look is now live across CNET

Just a heads-up that the engineers have rolled out a new look for CNET, complete with a new header, a new footer, and a dark background. Those using newer browsers (Firefox 3+, Chrome, IE9, etc.) will also see some nice CSS3 effects, including rounded corners, gradient backgrounds, etc. The differences between the old and new designs are fairly stark, but represent a new design direction that is leading to more granular changes to individual pages throughout the site.

including the forums. I think it has recovered now, but I don't see the changes in the forums discussion pages or thread listing pages. I will look into it, but here is how it looks on the CNET forum home page:

You may need to do a browser shift + refresh to see the new changes.

It looks like the deployment didn't go very well, so they are rolling back the changes now. sad

If your quick enough you may just catch it now before everything is rolled back--carefully look at the CNET headers which is the most significant change.

They rolled back the changes just as the forum pages started to display the new design; on the main landing page displayed the changes for any length of time. Oh well; we had a sneak peek and it shouldn't belong before the changes stay for good.

The darker background is particularly pleasing, and the rounded edges make for a softer touch.

"Hot discussions" is still there but where did "Latest Posts" go... caught a lot of great discussions and therefore learned a lot over the years checking in a few times a day to see latest posts.Please get it back !!

It wasn't connected with the roll out of the new design, but may be related to some other forum-related changes made today. Hopefully they can restore that component in their next deployment as I too found it to be quite useful. In the interim, though, check out the Real Time forums page, which auto-updates as new posts are made.
