Formatting (??) - News Thread ..

Please look at the last 3 items in the news thread. This being one example. There seems to be no "break", where there should be. I've tried every which way to post. I reposted a few times. And did so with two different browsers, thinking it might be on my end. No luck. I haven't had any problems posting vulnerabilities and fixes. And didn't have any problems earlier in the day. Any input? Carol

I'm no longer able to post vulnerabilites/fixes correctly. When I "preview" a post, it appears as it should be. The problem occurs after hitting "submit". There seems to be no way to work around it. This post should appear as 3 separate paragraphs, according to what I've just typed and previewed. Carol

In short, it is an issue only if the post is previewed immediately before it is submitted. If you preview the post, hit the Edit button, then submit, or if you omit previewing entirely, it will be submitted properly. Otherwise, the line breaks are stripped away. (Every %0D%0A is converted into a plus sign client-side, which is then converted into a space server-side.)
Evidently, the engineers came a stirring while we were all nestled in our beds, stealing the working JavaScript right out of our heads. Well up to the administrator there rose such a clatter, I have to email Lee to tell him of the matter. 
-> Sorry for the poor poetry; seems Christmas is till on the brain.
Hopefully a quick fix is feasible.

I think I may make use of the Test Forum, before I "go public". Hey. Wait. I don't have to go the Test Forum. THIS is "the test".
If this works.. I owe you a HUGE debt of gratitude. Your poetry is music to my ears.
All "flattery" is pending. Once I no longer see "a jumble of words", it will become official.
If this works, I don't care how quick the fix, as long as I can post!

I thought it was me. A while ago I used one of John's Firefox CSS files and figured I had made an error. Rather than use my remaining but limited brain substance to try and work it out, I just left it.
Glad to see it is not me, but I can't imagine where the problem lies. Whatever John's own browser CSS file does for his posts, our browsers should not be affected, so I am right confused.

Cnet's CSS removes the typical underlining in links, making them more difficult to identify in posts. To counter, I add underlines myself using the available BBS codes for the benefit of future readers. However, I typically add enclosing underlines around the BBS URL tags, which then causes the underline issue that doesn't occur when the U tags are started (but not necessarily closed) within URL tags. This has been a bug in Cnet's CSS for as long as I can remember, but I let it go as it's trivial compared to a number of other issues I've reported.

entire site yesterday (across CNET) to speed up page loads and apparently this affected the preview portion in the forums.
Currently if you use the "preview post" feature when submitting a post and your post happens to have line breaks in the body, the system is currently stripping out all line breaks even though it previews with line break in them.
However, if you submit the post without the use of the "preview post" feature, it submits the post with line breaks intact.
So for the current work around while our engineer is looking into this issue, is to either:
Temporarily not use the preview post feature when submitting a post with line breaks.
Or use the preview post but MAKE SURE NOT TO SUBMIT IT from the preview state, but click "Edit post" and return to regular submission form and then submit the post. This will ensure that line breaks are not lost.
I do apologize for this inconvenience. The engineer is looking into it now. I will update this thread as soon as he has a solution to fix this.

In my rush to catch up on posting news, I previewed (and hit submit) twice today. I wouldn't have minded posting a second time, IF...
the "duplicate subject" didn't come into play.
I can't say I wasn't warned. But I retract what I said, about not caring how long it takes to correct the problem.
Anxiously awaiting a fix..but STILL very grateful for the workaround....

This bug is fixed and has been deployed now, so submitting from a post from the preview state should keep all line breaks intact.
Please let me know if it isn't and if you see any other bugs that may have cropped up because of this fix.

after reading about it.
Didn't really reread my posts after previewing. Just rereading a post of mine to compare a response to what I actually said, and noticed that it was all continuous, not broken apart as I normally would.
Oh well.
Good for a problem to be fixed already by the time I notice it.
