how I can Fix my ipod?

I have an 80 gig classic...Short version I got a new usb cord and got the chance to connect my Ipod to my computer after nearly a month of not being able to add music.I have become greatly frustrated that in Itunes it'll say 'veifiying Ipod' I think theres something wrong after it does that for a half hour.I cant add music or view.Can some please help this music addict?Has this happened to anyone else and how do I fix it?

Things you can try:
- Other USB port on the PC
- Other cable
- Other PC
- Other iPod on your PC (just for a test, don't synchronize!)

If it's clear that it's an issue with your iPod, I'd post in the http://forums.cnet.com/mac-forums/iphones-and-ipods-forum/ for specialised help. Maybe it needs to be resetted or something like that, but I'm not the one to suggest such.
