Digital music forum: HELP! Wma vs LAME mp3 via Exact Audio Copy

What is the third way? wma,LAME mp3 and ?

I've also used iTunes.

Wma might be more efficient, but you're going to run into problems for the rest of your life trying to play those files in other places. It's going to take a really long time to rip these, you. Ought as well do it in a format that you can play everywhere, mp3.

Looks like I will have to try different versions. Car jukebox only allows one version for each track so will try on sd card. Exact Audio Copy/LAME seems to max out at 192 for vbr and higher for cbr. Will 192 vbr suffice for mp3?

192 vbr. I've used 192vbr, but like 256 or 320 cbr better. For a car, unless you have a really nice system, 192 cbr is fine. I'm not into vbr, because some older systems had trouble playing vbr discs.

is the following in the LAME section of H A: "The rule of thumb when considering encoding options: at a given bitrate, VBR is higher quality than ABR, which is higher quality than CBR (VBR > ABR > CBR in terms of quality). The exception to this is when you choose the highest possible CBR bitrate, which is 320 kbps (-b 320 = --alt-preset insane), but this produces the largest filesizes for doubtful audible benefit"
Doesn't seem logical if talking about quality.

for quality. I have not used mp3 in a long time, but the answer is vbr should give the best quality at a smaller file size, given your player doesn't have problems playing vbr.
