Can iPod play my regular mp3's?

Funny but I am really new with the iPod. Believe it or not, I've never have had one in my hands!

A friend of mine is going to upgrade his player to a better version and is going to give me his old iPod.

I just want to know, can the iPod play my REGULAR mp3 files?

I use to play them with MusicMatch in my computer and with a very, very cheap $20 MP3 player while jogging but I'm wondering if the iPod can play them too.

I understand something about transfer them first to the iTunes software but I'm not sure about the procedure.

I have a PC Dell Dimension, with XP, Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM and 80 GB HDD.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Wow! Simple solution and now you left me wondering, how couldn't I think of this first before doing the question?

If it plays in iTunes, ...... it plays in iPod!

Duh!

iPods can play: AAC MP3 AIFF and Wav files
