How to connect those?

I've just bought Yamaha RX-V596 AV Receiver, upgrading from Yamaha RX-SL100RDS. On the latter, I have had connection running through SCART cables.
now, since the RX-v596 doesn't have SCART plugs, I have to do it somehow else.
The tech I want to connect is:
Humax PVR-8000T, Sony dvd and Sony old Trinitron Digital TV.
I want the PVR and DVD to be connected to the AV receiver for audio and only the video going out to the TV.
The receiver's manual shows that the only way to connect video to TV is via S-Video cable, but from what I've heard and experienced, the s-video signal is not good at all. (yes, I know, I can upgrade the TV, but for the time being I want to stick with the old one).
But, I was wondering if it would be possible, to connect PRV and DVD to TV with SCART cables (for video) and PRV and DVD separately to receiver with optical cables (for sound)?
wouldn't it somehow collide, and, first of all, would it work?
