Samsung Blu Ray/Hitachi Plasma TV

I am trying to connect a Samsung BD-E5700/ZA WiFi ready BluRay player to my Hitachi 42HDF52 Plasma TV. I can get a great picture by using a HDMI/DVI cable from the BluRay to the TV.
However, I can not figure out how to get sound. The Blu Ray has one audio jack (Digital Audio/coaxial) on the back. There is no corresponding Audio input jack because the Hitachi TV is about 7 years old.
If I get a HDMI - RCA split cable (video and sound, three cables) will I get sound?
I found a device on-line that appears to accept the Digital/Audio coaxial cable as input and has two output sound jacks for L R speaker cables. Will this work?
Thanks to anyone who can make some suggestions. This is new territory to me and I have a learning curve ahead of me.
Bottom line, I am cable tv free and want to get Netflix and Hulu Plus to stream live through the Blu Ray.
