Setting up speakers on a Pioneer VSX 1122 K 7.2

I just purchased and awaiting its arrival, a Pioneer VSX-1122-K AV Reciever. Yet to buy speakers however I have a couple smaller temporary speakers I can use till I get some speakers figured out.
- Channels: 7.2
- Amplification Type: Direct Energy
- 90 W/ch (20 Hz - 20 kHz, THD 0.08 %, 8 ohms FTC)
- 165 W/ch (6 ohms 1 kHz 1 % 1ch Driven)
I have a couple questions concerning the use of these temp speakers.
1.) Is there any danger of damaging the receiver by hooking up ONLY 2 speakers to the receiver till a better set of speakers are obtained, not worried so much about these 10.00 speakers or the sound quality just yet.
And what channels should a person only hook the 2 speakers to?
(Of coarse I am not listening to this at any high levels)
- Speakers = Sony SS-H3300
These are 6 ohm, 45w nom, 90w max
2.) Many theater speaker systems have a powered subwoofer with outputs for its own set of front and rear surround speakers, should I be staying away from a powered subwoofer for this type of A/V receiver?
