Good day to all, I have a question regarding how to get sound with "limited" outputs-inputs.
I'll try my best to describe setup and what I want from it.
I want to avoid using RCA/Component

Samsung Home Theater (5.1)
1 x HDMI - OUTPUT (ARC)
1 x Optical Audio
Component
LG LED
2 x HDMI (Not ARC compatible)
1 x Optical Audio
PS3
1 x HDMI
1 x Optical Audio
LAPTOP
1 x HDMI
Ok, basically what I want is to get sound from the HT on anything that is showing on my TV without having to connect/disconnect cables constantly.
-Right now I have my PS3 Optical hooked to HT and HDMI to TV since PS3 is what I use the most.
-I tried HDMI from PS3 to TV then TV Optical to HT, but I had sound loss. I couldn't get 5.1 on PS3 this way or not at all from some games.
-I want to be able to connect HDMI from LAPTOP and get video on TV and sound from HT (Even if not 5.1)
I was thinking on achieving this by using an Optical Splitter to connect PS3-HT-TV.
Would this work? Any suggestions?

...from the laptop back out to the Samsung HT component via the digital optical output of the HDTV. OTOH, some laptops have headphone jacks that double as digital audio output (via optical minijacks). You would have to consult with the laptop manufacturer for more specifics on this. But even so, it still may not be possible for you to send through video & audio with and HDMI cable & digital optical cable simultaneously. Again, some experimentation may be in order here. Cables are cheap enough anyway.
Using an optical splitter so the LG HDTV and PS3 can 'share' the lone digital optical input of the Samsung HT may be possible though.
Bottom line is it may be time to consider upgrading your Samsung

It notes a splitter but the setup is usually from source to TV. I can't guess why you need to bypass the HT but my guess is this is just a HT and not a receiver. ARC is less than reliable and the more I run into it the more I think "nice if it works." The makers are all over the map on that.
Pass-through on the HDTV is hampered by HD rules as well as limitations in the set. So always try the optical link from TV to the HT.
