Newb, need help understanding TV output choices...

I'm going to buy a sound bar for my LCD TV. My TV outputs are RCA analog (L/R) and a digital coaxial audio.

I'm looking at a couple sound bars - one I would have to use the RCA analog output (I like this sound bar the best) and the other I could use the digital coaxial audio output.

Is there any advantage of one over the other?

I thought I read where dolby surround signal does not work thru RCA analog? So would that mean the simulated surround sound wouldn't work?

Please inform me of the give and take of the 2 options.

For too many reasons I'll keep it short. Audio passthrough or output from a TV is strictly stereo with one exception. It's due to HDCP rules that mandate makers only pass non-HD signals when a device has audio or video display capability.

If you want 5.1 then you get your 5.1 system and run the usual hookup like this.

Source -> HD audio receiver -> HDTV and speakers.

Sadly simple, sadly consumer unfriendly.

So are you saying (for an untrained ear like mine, just want sound, but use the best connection method) it doesn't really matter which of these 2 methods I use out of my TV into a sound bar - I will get the outcome regardless?
