Onkyo TX-NR series

I saw a CNET review of the Onkyo NR series of AV receiver (414 and 616) and was leaning toward buying one. But after looking around I found that the entire 2012 line of Onkyo NR receivers seem to be having some major problems. HDMI ports not working, having to constantly unplug the system to reset it because some other thing has gone wrong. Freezing up. BSOD. The remote app not working. Among other things. CNET said these were OK receivers even though they did acknowledge that some people were having problems with the firmware. I was wondering if the people at CNET still thinks this is worth buying? Did they have any problems with the units they were testing after they did the reviews? I have been looking at other review/message boards and it is rare to hear about an entire line of products that are having a problem that has been going on for so long. I am not trying to bust anyone for giving a inaccurate review. If the people at CNET still say this is a good product, and I go out and buy one, and it does not work. I will not blame CNET. Onkyo is supposed to be working on all of these problems with firmware updates but I have seen people still having problems at late as last week. (In fact that was another problem. People not being able to do the firmware update through the internet connection. Only the USB option worked and even that was only sometimes) A couple of posts are asking about a wholesale recall because the receivers are so buggy. And does anyone have any suggestions for a comparable receiver for under $400? I thought I may have found a AV in my price range with good features, then I read about the ongoing problems. You could hear the air deflating out of me.
Thanks
