Clarification request: Tell us more of your needs/wants
Understand, this is all quite subjective to someone's respective wants/needs/budget. How about you give us an idea of your usage/media/content interests, then we could recommend some specific gear. Married to iTunes and/or other iOS devices already? Or isn't that a factor?
Also, when you say 'TV & speakers', I presume you are referring to HT gear w/ surround, sub, and the whole nine yards(?)
My perspective is, if you consume a lot on the internet, most of the built in 'Smart' (and I give the term a lot of leverage here) HDTV apps pale in comparison to what a very basic PC connected to the HDTV could accomplish over HDMI. For example, on the new Panasonic plasmas, you *can* search Youtube, but it's more cumbersome than using their standard website w/ a keyboard.
In this respect, you might want to send over the full range of PC/Mac content to your new HDTV display.
And this goes beyond Apple TV, btw. Having helped some folks get started in person with this about a half dozen times already, I find a pretty basic wireless keyboard/mouse (or trackpad) with USB active repeater can take your whole computing/entertainment system to the next level. It fits within most folk's budgets too IME.
