Thank you Bob and Pepe. That was actually how I had it set up initially, but I was not getting any picture on the TV or sound through the speakers. I couldn't even get the CD player or stereo to play, so i thought perhaps my hook-up was incorrect.

I'll play with the settings a bit more this weekend now that I know everything is where it should be.

And not specific to anyone's exact setup. It's where I start and then modify as needed.

The set up is working pretty well as Bob and Pepe described, but I am trying to work out one bug. As I stated earlier, right now I only have 2 speakers hooked up to the system. The yamaha receiver has a speaker indicator on the display, right underneath the volume display. When the speakers are receving a signal, an "L" and an "R" appear underneath the volume level indicator.

Sometimes, when everything is powered up, the speakers do not appear to be receiving a signal. I get no sound from the speakers, and the "L" and "R" speaker indicators on the yamaha display are not lit. usually i can fix this problem by simply turning off the receiver off (but leaving the other components, such as the TV and cable box, on). When the receiver powers up, the speakers usually come on as well.

Is there a way to avoid this? It's not a big deal, but it's annoying, especially when trying to explain to someone else how to get the sound working. One thing that may or may not be relevant: I left the impedance level on the receiver at the factory-set default, as my speakers are built into the wall and i am not sure what their impedance is. If it may be causing the problem, i can try to pop the covers off and take a look at them.

But I can't read it because I don't join just to read a manual for folk. Take a look but maybe there is a bug in that system they need to address.
