DD got mad and threw a rock into our 4yo LG Plasma. We are having an Olympic Watching party July 31st and since that was our only tv, we need a new one. The room is a large square room, not too bright not too dark except when we watch movies at night. We have a couch on the west wall and a love seat on the north wall. The tv is on a stand on an angle because wall mounting was not an option and it just looked better in the corner. The distance from the tv to the couches is 12 feet. It seems the sweet spot for our room is a 50" HDTV. We mainly watch kids shows/movies, sports and the hubs will watch your average B action movie when the kids are asleep. I keep reading about Plasma vs. LED, calibrations, heat, etc. I just need a tv that will work for us. Our old tv was an LG and one of the panels (I'm not sure what they are called) went out and we had a green vertical line for the last two and a half years. I would rather not experience that again since our tv was only 4 years old. It dosen't leave me wanting to run out and get another LG again. I want to be armed with good information before we go into the store and get sold something that will not work for our needs. Hubs would prefer to spend under $1500. Thanks for the help!
