Answer Best answer as chosen by user HDnewbie You aren't comparing equivalent models
If anything, I would compare a higher end Sammy LED to that plasma, since it's one of the best current models offered by Panasonic. There's most definitely more bang for the buck in plasma right now, but if you are actually comparing a Samsung with an ST50, I would pick something up the food chain towards their 'flagship' models with better local dimming, such as an ES7500 or ES8000. Understand though, that with LED you pay through the nose for either one. Probably at least $700-1000 more. The 6100 IMO doesn't hold a candle to the ST50. You also benefit from plasma if your room isn't receiving direct sunlight and isn't horribly bright. No longer does your plasma need to be in a 'man cave'.
I will also link to an excellent quote about plasma overall PQ I read on CNET recently. Seals the deal for me anyway when someone asks what the benefit is over LED-LCD.
"....Plasma is the only technology (since CRT) that delivers a picture that actually looks real. Where colors feel natural. Where you don't feel you're watching a TV, but that you're watching the content....."
