Problems w/Samsung optical out to soundbar for HD only

I recently hooked up a Harmon Kardon SB-16 soundbar to my Samsung UN55D7000 television via a digital optical cable. My television signal comes from my local cable TV provider. For any non-HD channels, sound works fine through the soundbar. For any HD channels from the cable provider OR if I try to stream movies from something like VUDU, I get no sound. Seems like it must be having trouble getting the audio signal for any channels that provide HD content. Am I missing a setting somewhere on the Samsung setup to be able to send that audio signal out through the digital optical out to the soundbar on these channels that have the HD content and I'm guessing a differest audio signal?

It's quite possibly that only 2.0 sound will come out via digital optical based on the restrictions of the HDTV. I'm assuming there's no cable box involved here and you only have the HDTV working as the tuner?

First look in the audio settings to see if that helps. pp64-65 here-
