trying to burn dvd. programs will not recognize my drive

i have burned many dvd's in the past. For some reason, now when i try, i get only one 'destination' option, which is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B, which doesn't work. how do i get back to my D drive, which is the cd/dvd drive. thanks

The lack of details hinder any specific advice. Could be the old Intel RST issue but without details I don't see why to offer that one.

It's a shame you didn't write about any CODE 19, 31 or such. It's pretty common and Microsoft writes how to fix.

Here's a link but given such slim details I'll offer a link and then say "take it to the shop that fixes it for you."

hi, i'm new to the forum. what other details do you need? i have already done the microsoft fix it and ultimately, it said it is working. but it's not.

Let's assume it's a hardware issue. Then replacing the drive would be the solution. That's why Bob suggested taking it to a repair shop.

was hoping it wasn't hardware, but all roads are pointing in that direction. i did try driver downloads and reading other forums. everything says it is working, but it isn't. thanks. hopefully next time we can have a more helpful and meaty discussion that will be helpful to others. thanks. i guess this is goodbye.
