Home audio & video forum: 3D compatible replacement for Onkyo HT- R667?

...simply a HTIB replacement with receiver that can handle/process 3D signals but not necessarily pass them along to a HDTV untouched? In general, having a receiver using the latest HDMI 1.4 specification is probably what you are after though.

I believe i am looking for a receiver with pass through technology. I have my blu ray player connected to my current receiver with a 1.4 hdmi cable and then another 1.4 hdmi cable connecting my receiver to my 3D tv. My goal is to be able to use the surround sound while watching a 3D picture from my blu ray player. Hope that cleared things up.

P.S. Open to replacing the entire HTIB, but would prefer to replace just the receiver.

I believe if the Onkyo speakers on the 6100 are typical 8ohms you could use them on another Onkyo receiver pretty easily. Going from a goofy Sony 3ohm HTIB to a Onkyo w/ 8ohm wouldn't work though. If you do plan on keeping the current speakers, I would personally only be comfortable replacing an Onkyo with another Onkyo instead of only matching the speaker impedance though.

Wasn't the 6100 one of the recalled models with HDMI issues(?)

...the 6100 was never recalled by Onkyo for HDMI issues although from what i can tell they are pretty common. In fact that is what i had to send mine in repair for.

Im looking into Onkyo receiver replacements and am disappointed to see that the onkyo tx-nr609 which looks about as close as i can get to the HT-R667 while including 3D capability retails for $599 on Onkyo's website. That's nearly as much as i payed for the entire 6100 system new!

I did some calling around and found it at a retailer (chain that works on commission) for $400. It still seems a little high though.
