Speakers stopped working after standby

My computer is a dell inspiron 570, running windows 7.


I've had it for a couple years now, and this is the first time I've experienced this problem. I went to bed with my computer on and it automatically when to standby, but when I woke and tried to use my computer, there was no sound coming from the speakers.

All of my drivers/settings are intact. The sound is not muted, and the speakers themselves work when I jack them into my Mp3 player. I have also tried using headphones in the speaker jack, but there was still no sound.

I've attempted a system restore, downloading new drivers, etc but the problem persists.

Help?

But if a system restore fails, and you backup to do the system recovery fails, then for under 2 bucks I use one of these.

I'm not sure if a usb sound card would be the best long term solution, but if I get it and it works, would that mean that I'd need to replace my current sound card?

Dell usually tries that in the order I gave. But most folk will not pay for the new card (the sound is on the motherboard so it's the entire board!)

Alright, The usb sound card just came in and it works :/ I guess that means I need a new sound card?

It could be software but I only have the above story. The cheap USB sound "card" has been solving this for a few bucks many more times than I'll admit.
