finding the setup menu with a pioneer vsx-921-k receiver

I've hooked the receiver up using HDMI to TV, I've also attached xbox, apple tv, blu ray to receiver using HDMI also. I also have direct tv, but it is hook directly to tv...

The problems is after I hooked it up an then trying to set receiver up like instructions say, I'm unable to view the receivers set up menu, I know Im getting video because while flipping thru the different video setting..ie video 1 video 2 etc... Im able to see a dvd on video 6 for only a moment then the screen goes black... I have tried all kinda wiring set ups... like running hdmi out of receiver to directtv then to tv and still no pic or sound

You have to press the "receiver" button on the Pioneer remote while aiming it at the TV and then quickly press the "setup" button on the remote (page 37 of the user manual). The setup menu should appear on the screen. Whenever you want to set or change setup settings you have to press the "receiver" button first. Be aware that some setup options only appear on the receiver display and not on the TV. Read the user manual.
