I am interested in HD TV and internet browser boxes.

Hello, I am new to this forum and I've been looking at Smart TVs, but have been put off by price and the newness of the technology. I'm currently thinking 1080 pi, LED, 120 hz, w/wi fi. We like sports and initially I would like to use an antenna to pull in HD stations and an internet connection for additional media.
I would like the ability to surf the net using wi fi, my dsl service router and my television set. I have MANY questions, but my main focus at this time is to identify a box product that accesses the internet like current Roku boxes do, but in addition, offer a viable browser. I am hoping to build a "Frankenstein" Smart TV, I guess. I don't know if I could save money or if it is even possible. I would love some good advice, as I hope to have this set and technology up and running for or around Christmas. It would be the BIG surprise!!

While the Google TV boxes like the Logitech Revue show how close the browser could be to the Windows PC Browser EXPERIENCE I'm going to write that most if not all browsers in TVs today are finding the buyers to write later they expected better.

Lesson? Get a good TV. Forget it being smart. Don't pay for smart. The makers are going to have to try again.

That has been one of my concerns, but I have a strong desire to try and circumvent the cable/satellite companies. I could use a blu- ray player for Netflix and possibly hardwire to a computer down the road, I guess. Full internet access is the cherry on the sundae!
That said, do you have any set recommendations in the 46-55" range? I have always loved plasma, but my nephew told me that plasma colors "settle" and after awhile contribute to a fuzzier picture. I've read otherwise and really don't know what to think. This set will be used on the long wall of a 20 x 12' room (therefore wider angles) with four windows. It IS possible to locate the set on the short end of the room (for a narrower viewing angle), but I rather not put it there. Thanks R. Proffitt.

He's merely passing along bad information he's heard from a friend or online. Completely false regarding plasma technology. Colors are one of the best features, esp. on one that's broken in/calibrated(!)
Do me a favor and sketch out/describe in detail where the windows are precisely. Light control is a must regardless of which technology you go with, btw. Been there, done that.

Ha-ha! Pepe7, thanks for your post! I've always loved plasma and didn't consider LED until I talked to him. Regarding the room, the north and south walls are 20', the east and west 12'. Window on the east and west and two windows on the north, between which I'd like to put the TV. If that spot becomes a problem (d/t currently available cable), the set would go in the northeast corner, between the north and east windows. There are no windows on the south.
I am considering Consumer Reports favorite: the Panasonic Viera TC-P50s30 and hope to see it today if I get out.
