Connection help: Samsung HDTV + PC + CyberAcoustic speakers?

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to connect my custom-built PC to my Samsung HDTV and Cyber Acoustic speakers.
I have these speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836150086&Tpk=cyber%20acoustics%20ca3602
and this television: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102532&Tpk=un22d5000
My PC just a light gaming computer with a Sandy Bridge i5 (but this is irrelevant).
The television's built-in speakers are quite terrible, and that is why I bought some nice external ones. But I can't seem to get the entire setup working properly!
Here's the thing--my computer is connected to the HDTV by and HDMI cable. I understand that HDMI cables carry sound and video together, and the sound does come out through the tv's speakers with a sole HDMI connection.
What I want to know is how to connect the cables. For some reason, the only way I can get sound to come out through my external speakers is if I connect an auxiliary audio cable from the speaker's main control (a small circular device that lays on the desk and allows me to control the volume) to the headphone jack on my tv.
I thought that connecting the green audio cable to the back of my pc would be enough to output the sound from the speakers, but I was wrong. The green audio cable doesn't even seem to have an effect on anything--I can connect/disconnect it and there still isn't any sound.
I really don't want to use up an auxilliary input (I'd like to use that for my mp3 player), but right now, this seems like the only way to get the speakers to work.
Note: My tv has an headphone jack as well as another "PC/DVI AUDIO IN" jack, but this seems to be fore VGA inputs, not HDMI inputs.
I'm so confused--if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
