Why do you have a TV at home when there are theaters that show 2D movies and a computer where you can watch/download programs from?

A major advantage of a 3D display is that the 2D performance is improved to handle 3D when in 3D mode. That's why I bought one.

I just purchased a LG passive 3D. 3D technology was not my main feature, but when I compared the reviews/options on the 3D model to the model without 3D and the cost difference, I decided "why not?" I passive 3D was a big one--I wouldn't want active 3D for the glasses and screen-viewing requirements and especially the cost. I think (hope) passive 3D will be around awhile. The reviews said that the back-lighting, etc. was much better on this model than the non 3D model.

I tend to buy on the high end of technology but don't invest often, so I expect to get good mileage from my purchases. It is a strategy that has worked well so far. This is, in fact, my first HDTV....yep, that's right, still watching a clunky old CRT. I was on the fence with the 3D...time will tell if it was the right choice or not.

I don't have a 3D TV, but I do have a Nintendo 3DS. For gaming, at least, it becomes a little easier to judge distances on a 3D display than on a 2D display.

When watching soccer in 2D I find it difficult to see whether a lobbed pass will reach the player or go over his head. When watching Aussie Rules football I find it difficult to see whether the ball will go through the point posts or through the goal posts. I'm sure 3D would make that easier to see. 3D sports are not shown at theatres, only on TV. I'm sure there will be a lot more 3D content that's exclusive to TV in the future.

Buy a LG 3D TV!! Mine is a 47LW5600 model and it is internet-ready and has features like 2D to 3D conversion. I watch regular TV shows in 3D using this feature when the programs are not available on 3D TV channels or on blu-ray disc, and it is pretty decent. Since this feature can convert "any" contents into 3D, I even watch a video from Youtube or movies I downloaded on the web for free in 3D. I felt your anger from your writing and I am sorry 3D contents are so scarce in your area. Don't get upset too much and count this TV as your option. Plus, I read that more 3D content will be released and it is becoming a predominant of film and television production in the next five years.

This reply is way late as I have had innumerable problems with my PC but I thought my comments might be worthwhile to people currently thinking of buying 3D capable TVs. The movies are great apart from the fact they all seem dark (lack of brightness). I can only assume it is a function of 'active' glasses. I have a Panasonic Viera (Plasma) that came with AVATAR in 3D and I enjoy it so much I have viewed several times despite the drawback. Perhaps the 'passive' system used by LG is not prone to this unwanted feature. Maybe other Forum Readers can comment on this. (If they already haven't done so).

In my opinion there is nothing better than going to the cinema and watching there even though I have an excellent system at home!

Are you serious right now? Lol Why would you wanna spend almost double the amount of money every time you watch a 3D movie? Actually it's more than double since you're gonna be paying for all the pop corn and other junks.. I own a LG 3D TV and it's awesome. I I don't have to wait in line, pay for pop corns, pay for the whole night (-_-). I think you're missing out big time..

rocktalex, you can't hate on 3D TV because of that. Only active 3D TVs have problems like flickers because they use shutter glasses. Passive 3D TVs uses polarized glasses, you are not going to get any flickers with those at all. I see lot of people here had or have a LG TV and they didn't or don't have problems with it and LGs use passive 3D. Maybe you should give passive a try.
