Panasonic 42" plasma hdtv - White screen with sound

I have a 42" Panasonic plasma hdtv model # TH-42PX75U

I turned the t.v. on and the picture was fine, after a few minutes it went completely white, still had sound. Next I unplugged the tv for a few minutes and tried again, same thing.

Any ideas what this is? Maybe I'm better off donating it to the curb.


Any help would be great.

Also change out the video cable (hdmi?) & try different ports, make sure it is not the cable & make sure it is not just the one port... The other ports could be fine. Also try a different input device like a DVD/bluray player, a PC whatever.

Is the tv hookup to a surge protector?

If you have a can of compressed air, clean the ports 1st, then test the 1 inquestion port & the others... It could be just dust getting into the hdmi(?) port or into the hdmi cable end, maybe.

16 Months later... I have the fix.

I know the original poster has probably moved on at this point, but if anyone else encounters this problem, I cracked the case.

This exact problem started happening to my TV a few months ago. It would happen periodically and then got worse and worse to the point where I'd turn it on and it would just be white all the time.

After downloading a few Panasonic service manuals, I narrowed the issue down to the "D-Board" inside the display. Also known as the "Main Logic Controller" depending on who you talk to.

Anyway, I googled "TH-42PX75U d board" and wound up buying a new one for $43.63 shipped from ReTechTV.com. ShopJimmy.com also had them, but they were a little more expensive, and I wasn't sure if this was going to work.

Five days later, though... and it worked! It's kind of amazing. And I didn't even electrocute myself.

I'll keep an eye on this thread. Hopefully it'll help someone somewhere down the line.

Identical Problem--different TV

Twist--your description of the problem is exactly what has occurred with our tv--but we have a different model/size. I looked for some service manuals online, but there was a charge at all the sites I found. Did you pay for your manual? Those parts sites show a variety of possible boards (both "d" and "main logic controller). How difficult was it to actually get to the board and replace it?

I'm also going to try the reset suggested by gman, above--but I have my doubts that will do anything.
