Plasma Help Please!

I am in the market for a new TV (this is a little winded). I owned a house with my brother and moved for a new job. We decided that he would keep the TV, and non elite 43 inch 3 year old pioneer plasma - totally happy with BTW. So I need a new tv. Went down to the local electronics store to check out the "V" line of Panasonics since I heard that Pioneer was no longer making plasmas. Proplem is that they are out of stock and may have some in by Christmass. Went to the rest of eletronic stores in town and no one is carring the higher end plasmas. Bummer. But, when I was at Vann's, the saleman showed me two 50 inch Pioneer monitors, so no sound or tuners. The models were the elite, pro-101fd for 2.5K, and the KRP-500 for 2K. I was worried about service or if I had proplems, parts etc since they are no longer in the biz - Vanns does a 5 extended warrenty for $250 on them. Sounds pretty good and they are obligated to be in a position to servce them for the next 7 years - nice. I was really looking to buy a full Tv with the Panasonic and did not want to worry about researching getting a reciever, speakers, etc as this will be more than I wanted to spend - around 2K. But I am willing to make exceptions. So, here are my questions:
1. Do these models have the same great picture that cnet raves about with the pro-111fd? The salesman said that the these two monitors are pretty much the same TV with the elite having a few more hook-ups than the KRP.
2. Should I holdout to compare the Panasonic to them? The V series 50 inch Panasonic will be about 2.1K. Or, will both of these models just blow the panasonic out of the water for picture quality and I should buy now?
Thanks for your help!
