RCA L32HD31YX17 Surround Sound Hookup

I have an RCA LCD L32HD31YX17 and a Phillips HTS 3544 Home Theater System. I have not been able to understand what to do from reading the other posts. I am trying to hear the surround sound watching tv. There are VID1,CMPT, HDMI and DVI and PC imputs. I want to watch tv using the surround sound but can only hear video at this time. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance.

Try pressing the source button on your tv remote. Then press the coloured av buttons in turn. If you get sound and/or a black and white picture when pressing one of the coloured buttons then try pressing it twice in quick succession which may acivate the sound and video. I assume that when you turn your theatre surround system on, you use the tv function rather than just using the main on/off button which only activates cd/dvd.
