Wiring a powered subwoofer

Hi, I'm trying to figure out the wiring of the house I just moved into. There are 2 in-ceiling speakers wired through the walls. There is also a single-pair speaker wire wired through the walls for a subwoofer (unfortunately stapled behind the walls so it's very tough to pull another wire). Anybody have an idea regarding what the anticipated setup was? Is there a way to set up a powered subwoofer using a single-pair speaker wire? I'm baffled, but I'm sure there are much more experienced folks out there who might get it.

are on the sub? A sub only needs two wires.

The sub has all sorts of inputs, but the wire is a speaker wire and the receiver does not have a single-wire sub output, only 2 sets of L and R speaker posts.

does not have a dedicated sub-woofer out you cannot use a powered sub-woofer. A powered sub wants a preamp input which is driven up to volume. You'll need a standard non-powered speaker. If you connect the powered L/R outputs to the powered sub you'll blow it out.
