Home audio & video forum: Trouble Playing iPod Through Samsung 6 Series LCD

I was trying to connect an iPhone 4 to a Samsung PS43D450A2 TV via an Apple Universal Dock and Apple Composite AV cable. These are the steps I had to take to solve the problem of playing my iPhone's music through the TV speakers...


1. Connect the iPhone to the Samsung TV's Composite AV ports using the Apple Universal dock and Apple Composite AV Cable (Don't connect the USB end of the Apple cable to the TV)2. Change the TV source to the AV channel
3. Start a video playing on your iPhone and this should appear on the TV screen (either a video fro youtube or your photos app)
4. Pause the video on your iPhone and double-tap the home button to bring up the background apps list.
5. Open the music app and press the play button to start the music playing. If like me, you've connected via an Apple dock you should then be able to control the music using an Apple remote.

NB - One thing I haven't fully tested is if the TV will go into standby mode because it detects that there's no video playing....Only time will tell

Hopefully this will work for you too....It took me quite a while to get to this stage after reading all the posts on this (and other) forums. As many have mentioned, the problem appears to be that the AV channel on the Samsung TV doesn't become live until it's fed a video source. Playing just audio has no effect on activating the AV channel.

Google brought me here, and I'm gl/sad to see I'm not alone. It's so aggravating.

On the TV I had before, it also required "tricking" into thinking there was video input... but only to the extent of plugging in a yellow. It didn't care whether anything was "on," just so long as that yellow input was plugged in.

Now, with the Samsung, I'm stuck leaving my PS2 or Wii or Camera or Something on just to force the TV into activating the audio feed.

I take it no one has a better solution yet?

FYI This is so I can use my 360 with a projector. The projector audio is terrible, but the TV sounds really good. Oh the irony of burning my PS2 so I can play 360.

My iPod plays music perfectly into my Toshiba LCD (2 years old) but it does not play when connected the same way on my Panasonic TV (newer Plasma). I'm using the Mini Plug to Red/White audio plugs. Samsung isn't alone with this. I think it's how the TVs are setup to recognize audio signals, needing a video signal in the same input. Seems silly.
